Professional Photos Don’t Need To Be Stuffy
Remember when high school senior Stefano Peiris blew up the internet when he tweeted pictures from his senior portrait photo shoot — all taken at a 7-Eleven convenience store? Peiris won the hearts and minds of tens of thousands of Twitter followers by showing his playful, humorous personality in photos that really stand out, all taken in an unusual location.
“I’ve actually been thinking about this for a few years for how to make my senior pictures funny,” Peiris told Hermiston Herald. “I try to be funny as much as I can because I like to make people laugh. I actually won an award for best comedian from my high school last year.”
Many people think that professional photos must be stuffy studio shots or stiffly posed outdoor shots. In an attempt to get away from those pricy formulaic pictures, people resort to poor quality selfies that at least show their personality. This high school student shows us that it doesn’t need to be an either/or choice.
One company, FotoSnap, in Portland Oregon, has already created an entire business model out of offering their photo shoots in businesses all over the city. They schedule their quick pop-up mini photo sessions in unique locations like cute coffee shops and hip colorful retailers, all designed to give their customers choices that fit their personality. Whether it’s a vintage furniture store or a indie bike shop, people who use FotoSnap are able to find locations just as unique as a 7-11.
We can all take a page out of this high school student’s playbook and think a little outside the box when we think of professional photos.
